Cranford’s children deserve a school system that is responsible with taxpayer funds. When 55% of our tax bills go directly to Cranford’s schools we need to ask whether that money is being used most effectively, particularly when our teachers are undercompensated.

Efficiency in Spending
Our schools make up more than half of Cranford’s tax bill — which means we have a responsibility to ensure that every dollar is spent efficiently, transparently, and with direct impact on student learning. Strong schools and a sustainable budget go hand in hand.
Cranford must remain a place where families can afford to live, grow, and build their future, while our children continue to receive an outstanding education.
We are committed to:
Data-Driven Budget Transparency: Create a clear, user-friendly public budget portal that provides the public with more specificity on how tax dollars are spent — not just by broad categories in a budget summary. Taxpayers deserve to see exactly where their money goes and how it supports our students.
Values Driven Funding: The school portion of our tax bill is larger than ever, yet total enrollment is on a downward trend and teacher turnover is increasing. As board members we are committed to transparently examining whether spending is properly aligned with our local values.
Smart, Strategic Funding: Pursue all opportunities to expand resources without overburdening taxpayers — from state and federal grants to partnerships and nonprofit funding. We must be creative and proactive in ensuring that our schools have the resources they need while keeping costs down.
